June 16 (Cointime) - Blockchain data shows that a Bitcoin whale has transferred over 50 BTC, worth more than $1.2 million, that had been sitting still for over 13 years. This follows similar movements of long-term untouched Bitcoin in April, when holders moved $7.8 million and $11 million worth of Bitcoin after 10 and 11 years of inactivity, respectively.
The identity of these "whales" who hoard large amounts of cryptocurrency, and whether they are individuals or companies, remains unclear. Long-term "HODLers" are generally more successful investors than short-term traders, as Bitcoin has significantly increased in value over the past decade despite its volatility.
