Apple is expected to use TSMC's new 3nm chip manufacturing process for its upcoming A17 Bionic chip in the iPhone 15 Pro and M3 chip in future Macs and iPads. This will provide a significant boost in performance and efficiency over the current 4nm chips. Apple has reportedly booked nearly 90% of TSMC's initial 3nm production capacity for this year, which will provide a growth driver for TSMC in the second half of 2023. The 3nm chips may feature up to 40 compute cores and provide the biggest leap in Apple silicon chips since 2020. However, Apple devices will eventually migrate to an enhanced 3nm process called N3E which is not expected to ramp up production until 2024.
